Yoga Class Video:
The Diaphragm & Whole-Body Connection

Ever feel as though you’re breathing, but not quite getting the deep, satisfying support you need through your whole body? This class gently teaches you how to use your diaphragm so that every exhale gives you more steadiness, space and ease in your practice.

.

  • A breath-led practice for deep core support, internal warmth and whole-body integration.
  • Discover how actively engaging the diaphragm can transform the way you move, stabilise and support yourself from within.

This is a quietly powerful practice that works deeply with the diaphragm to support core-awareness, postural intelligence and whole-body integration.  It is especially supportive in winter or colder seasons, when the body benefits from internal warmth, circulation and steady, intelligent activation.

In this yoga class we explore the relationship between the diaphragm, core and whole body. You’ll learn how conscious engagement of the diaphragm can create length through the spine, space through the body, and a responsive, integrated strength without gripping or force.

We work with the diaphragm not only as a breathing muscle, but as an active, structural support system  – an intelligent source of lift, stability and organisation through movement.

Beginning on the floor, we explore how the diaphragm travels through inhalation and exhalation, gradually learning to engage more actively with its lifting action on the exhale. Rather than “doing” core work, we allow deep support to emerge through the coordination of the diaphragm, abdomen, pelvis and spine.

This can create a huge sense of calm, clarity and inner space, especially if your breathing tends to feel restricted or held.

As the class unfolds, you’ll explore how actively working with the diaphragm can create more space through the hips, better balance, and a subtle but unmistakeable feeling of lift from within.

The bandhas may begin to arise naturally, particularly Uddiyana Bandha, experienced as an organic sense of lift and internal connection rather than something to hold or perform.

Throughout, you’ll be invited to “wait for the right breath” – that natural, unforced exhale that allows the deep abdominal muscles and bandhas to engage organically. This creates length through the waist, more freedom around the hips and a clearer sense of organisation from the centre.

This is a subtle but strongly activating practice for those who want to understand how breath mechanics can generate real structural support in the body.

You may finish feeling taller, warmer, lighter and more integrated, with a clearer sense of how breath and diaphragm work together to support movement through the whole body.

.

Benefits:

  • Deepens your understanding of how the diaphragm supports movement, posture and stability
  • Builds genuine core support without crunching, gripping or bracing
  • Encourages internal warmth and circulation, especially helpful in colder conditions
  • Gently massages the internal organs, supporting digestive ease
  • Encourages fuller, more functional exhalation patterns
  • Creates length and space through the ribs, waist and spine
  • Improves stability in standing balances like Tree and Ardha Chandrasana
  • Integrates feet, legs, pelvis, spine and shoulders into coordinated movement
  • Releases unnecessary tension in neck, jaw, shoulders and upper chest
  • Supports a calmer, more regulated nervous system, leaving you grounded yet quietly energised

.

Who This Is For:

  • Practitioners interested in breath mechanics, core strength and integration
  • Those who find traditional “core work” reductive or disconnected
  • Anyone experiencing shallow, restricted or inefficient breathing patterns
  • People who feel cold, sluggish or low in internal energy and want a warming, activating practice
  • Teachers looking to refine how they understand and cue breath-led movement
  • Anyone drawn to intelligent, exploratory practice rather than soft or passive yoga
  • Those seeking a more integrated experience of moving from the inside out

.

What You’ll Gain:

  • A clearer, felt sense of diaphragm movement and function
  • More space and ease through the ribs, waist and lower back
  • Increased warmth, circulation and subtle energetic lift
  • A more embodied understanding of bandhas as natural responses rather than techniques
  • Improved coordination of breath, core and movement patterns
  • Practical breathing cues you can apply in any practice or daily movement
  • A calmer, more regulated nervous system
  • A lasting sense of internal organisation and integration

.

What To Expect:

  • A calm, unhurried class that gradually builds depth
  • Clear, down-to-earth guidance on feeling your diaphragm in real time
  • Floor-based breath and movement progressing into standing work
  • Familiar shapes – bridges, leg stretches, Downward Dog, forward bends, Tree, Trikonasana, Ardha Chandrasana and plank – led primarily by the exhale
  • Space for pauses, natural breathing and integration
  • A physically engaging yet grounding experience
  • Gentle, accessible exploration of Uddiyana Bandha and related internal support systems

.

If you’re curious about how strength can be built from within – without force, but with precision – this practice offers a detailed exploration of the diaphragm as a powerful organising centre for movement, stability and internal support.
