Yoga for Back Care
If your lower back ever feels a bit stiff or cranky, join Catherine for this class to explore creating length and space through the lumbar spine and deep waist.
This area of the body is where all our movement begins, it’s our centre of gravity, known also as dan tien or hara in Eastern cultures, it’s connected to our breath and our sense of self. When the deep waist opens, we move and breathe with more ease and elasticity.
This class is particularly helpful for those working with lower back pain, sciatica or who spend a long time sitting. It’s a companion to the yoga class video The Power of the Diaphragm, where we investigate the action of nauli.

Tribute to Thich Nhat Hanh
Known as the "father of mindfulness", Thich Nhat Hanh was a Buddhist monk, peace activist, prolific author, poet, teacher, and founder of the Plum Village Tradition.
Join me for this meditative yoga class, created in response to his recent passing, during which we explore how we are all connected through the feeling of breath and the physical sensations of moving and living in our bodies. A class to develop compassionate, warm acceptance of ourselves as we dive into our feelings and experience of sharing space together.

Sides of the Body
Today we'll explore the sides of our bodies, the edges of ourselves, which are richly enervated, connecting our inner arms down along our ribs and diaphragm into our deep waist.
Join me to explore how we experience our lateral lines and how they feeds deep into our tissues, affecting our breath, our spine and the way we move through space.

Threads of Movement 2
Continuing the themes of Threads of Movement 1, here we explore again the alchemy of dropping into our conscious awareness of ourselves and how that affects our state of mind and state of being.
As we work thoughtfully and delicately, our tissues settle and we may experience a sense of softening. The ancient yogis remind us that we are all born in a state of love, with peace and joy at our core which can be disrupted by our cultural and social conditioning, which interrupt our ability to drop into our original essence. This class is an invitation to explore our ability to revisit this original state of quiet, working through the fibres of our muscles to sense how the threads of movement affect us and have the potential to return us to a state of balance and equanimity.

Threads of Movement 1
Something happens when we arrive on the mat – an alchemical reaction that spreads through us as a physical sensation when we commit to observing the myriad feelings that occur during an hour of paying attention.
This practice focuses on inviting a quiet inner space which gradually builds and spreads through us. It may begin as an idea, continues as a psychological state of being and then flows through our tissues, like threads of movement which build to create a sense of whole body integration. Poses build in intensity, challenging our ability to sustain focus on inner quiet, offering a way of literally practicing staying calm and unruffled in the face of distractions.

Self Care and CranioSacral Therapy
Some yoga is all about our experience of movements and muscularity. But there's another way to practice which takes us into the deep rhythms and pulses of the fluid body.
The central nervous system is bathed in craniosacral fluid (CSF), which bathes the brain, flows through the spinal canal and on down into a pocket within the sacrum. When the fluid is optimally balanced and flowing harmoniously, we feel calm, that all is well with the world and within us.
Usually we visit a therapist who will provide touch and tiny delicate movements to promote harmony within the system.
During this yoga class we explore how it’s possible, with delicacy and attention, to stimulate a harmonious sense of fluid movement and bring ourselves into a sense of balance and ease and quiet.

YOGA CLASS
The Subtle Energy of Bhramari Breath 2
This yoga class is a variation on the first Bhramari Breath 1 class and explores the vibrations of Bhramari breath.
Bhramari breath simulates the sound of the big black Indian bumblebee, evoking a sense of sitting in the evening sun, listening to the bees visiting each flower head. Vibrations travel through the body, creating connection and inviting introspection during practice.
This classical breathing practice has been shown to stimulate the flow of nitric oxide, a vasodilator, which relaxes the inner muscles of your blood vessels, causing the vessels to widen, thereby increasing blood flow and lowering blood pressure. It’s also been shown to inhibit the replication cycle of viral infections, including Coronavirus

YOGA CLASS
The Power of the Diaphragm
Explore how working with the strong lift of the diaphragm supports the entire body to create a sense of wholeness and integration.
A slow, sensitive introduction to the practice of Nauli, where we deliberately create a vacuum to draw the diaphragm high up inside the rib cage, stretching the fibres and exploring the scope and shape of its movement during the exhale.
This powerful practice can be particularly helpful for those working with sciatica and lower back pain, as we explore the links between the diaphragm, deep waist and down through the pelvis. This class is a companion to the yoga class video Yoga for Back Care.

YOGA CLASS
Fluid Shoulders & Upper Back
An exploration of our shoulders, developing softness across the back of the upper body - creating a sense of the skin in that area as a silken sheet of tissue, spreading from the spine, over the shoulder blades and around the upper arms. ⠀
⠀
When we let go of unnecessary tension in our upper backs, our head, neck shoulders - and especially our arms - become so delicate and light that they almost float on the air.
There is no weight bearing included in this class, making this practice suitable for everyone, including those working with long term shoulder issues, such as frozen shoulder.
