Build Strength. Move With Greater Ease. Stay Capable for Life.

.

Your body changes as you move through midlife and beyond. What you need from movement may need to change too.

My weekly yoga and strength classes are designed to help you stay strong, mobile and confident in your body – not simply for exercise, but for everything you want your body to keep doing.

That might mean getting up from the floor comfortably, carrying shopping, climbing stairs, maintaining your balance, feeling stronger through your joints or simply moving through everyday life with greater ease.

Rather than chasing flexibility or pushing your body harder, yoga and strength offer a more intelligent approach to healthy ageing.

Two Ways to Bring Yoga & Strength Into Your Week

Yoga and strength support your body in different but complementary ways. Yoga develops movement quality, awareness and ease, while strength work provides the progressive resistance that helps maintain muscle, bone and physical capability.

Live Online Yoga Classes

Move with more ease – without forcing your body into fixed shapes.

.

Experience a thoughtful, exploratory approach to movement.  Inspired by the teachings of Vanda Scaravelli, these live online classes use breath, gravity and deep awareness to explore how your body wants to move naturally, rather than trying to make it conform to a rigid ideal.

Together, we focus on developing greater sensitivity, coordination and freedom of movement while shedding unnecessary effort and tension.  Over time, you may begin to notice that movement feels less like something you have to make happen and more like something your body already understands how to organise.

.

How these classes support you:

•  improve joint mobility and bring natural ease to your spine
•  explore mindful movement without forcing or straining
•  reduce unnecessary muscular tension and soothe your nervous system
•  adapt your practice to how your body feels on the day
.

Note: while we may include gentle structural strengthening in these classes, the primary focus is movement quality, awareness, breath and nervous-system regulation.

Online Strength Classes

Strength isn't about becoming a gym person. It's about keeping your body capable.

.

Alongside yoga, strength training provides a different kind of stimulus. Combining yoga and strength across your week can help you develop both movement quality and the physical capacity you need for everyday life.

.

From midlife onwards, maintaining muscle and bone becomes increasingly important.

These weekly online classes use progressive resistance to help you build strength safely and gradually – supporting the muscles, bones and joints you rely on every day.  This isn't about pushing yourself to exhaustion or lifting the heaviest weight possible. It's about giving your body the right amount of intelligent challenge so it can adapt, grow stronger, and protect your independence.

Think about being able to carry heavy bags, climb stairs confidently, get down onto the floor and back up again, maintain your balance and continue doing the things you enjoy.

.

The real-world benefits you'll feel:

•  build confidence in what your body can physically do
•  support bone health and maintain muscle mass
•  protect your joints, improve your stability and balance
•  develop your strength and stamina
•  make everyday life easier - from carrying heavy bags to painting the ceiling
•  get up and down from the floor more comfortably

.

The classes are progressive, practical and designed to help you build strength for real life – not simply strength for the sake of exercise.

.

Together, yoga and strength provide two complementary ways to support how you move, feel and function as you get older.

Minehead Yoga Classes

Thoughtful, accessible yoga – taught in person.

.

My weekly Minehead classes offer the same exploratory, Scaravelli-inspired approach in a friendly face-to-face environment.

Each class develops around a particular theme drawn from my ongoing research, teaching and personal exploration.  Rather than simply moving through a predetermined sequence, we investigate how the body responds – noticing where movement feels free, where we're holding unnecessarily and how breath, gravity and attention can change our experience.

Classes generally begin on the floor, giving you time to arrive, breathe and settle.  From there, we gradually develop the theme, exploring increasingly active or challenging movements before returning to the floor and finishing with Savasana.

.

You don't need to be particularly flexible or experienced.

I explain both what we're doing and why we're doing it, so you can understand the intention behind the movement and find an approach that works for your own body.

Regular attendance allows ideas to develop from week to week, but you can also join without feeling that you've missed something essential.

Why Combine Yoga and Strength?

Because healthy ageing needs more than flexibility

.

Yoga and strength training offer different benefits – and I deliberately keep those differences.

Scaravelli-inspired yoga gives you time to listen.  It develops awareness, coordination and movement quality while exploring how breath, gravity and attention can help you move with less unnecessary effort.

Progressive resistance training provides something different: sufficient load and challenge to encourage your muscles and bones to adapt.

One doesn't replace the other.  Together, however, they can create a particularly useful approach to healthy ageing.  Strength gives you capacity. Yoga helps you explore how you use it.

The aim isn't to create a younger body.  It's to help you build a body that continues to feel capable, responsive and dependable as you age.

Yoga That Meets You Where You Are

You don't have to be flexible.  You don't have to know the terminology.  And you don't have to make your body look like anyone else's.

My approach is based on curiosity rather than performance.

You'll be encouraged to notice what you feel, explore your own range and adapt according to what your body needs on that particular day.  Some days you'll feel strong and energetic. Other days you may need something quieter.  Both are part of practice.

.

The aim is not to become better at yoga.

It's to become better acquainted with your own body – and help it remain strong, mobile and resilient for the life you want to live.

.

Which Class Is Right for Me?

If your priority is movement, mobility, awareness, breath and nervous-system regulation, start with a yoga class.

If your priority is building muscle, supporting bone health and becoming physically stronger, choose a strength class.

And if you're interested in a broader approach to healthy ageing, consider combining both.  You don't have to choose between being strong and moving well.

Your body needs both.

.

Start Where You Are

You don't need to wait until you're fitter, stronger or more flexible.

Come as you are.

The classes are designed to help you work intelligently with the body you have today while developing the strength, awareness and resilience that can support you in the years ahead.

Build strength. Move with greater ease. Stay capable for life.

This was my first attempt at online Yoga and I booked it with some trepidation. But it was great, and Catherine was excellent. Her online cues were excellent and there was still a sense of connection. There was a sense of being with her and that really surprised me.

I will be booking another online yoga class soon.

Seona
