Somatic Yoga + Yoga Nidra Video:
Whole Body Breathing

Your breath asks almost nothing of you.

It comes and goes all day and all night, without a single instruction.

This Nidra invites you to stop and feel it.

.

We begin on the floor with slow, lazy movement. There’s nowhere to get to and nothing to achieve. Gentle rolling, sinking and soft, curious movement on all fours help you let go of the day and feel the ground supporting you. Options are offered throughout, so you can make each movement work for your body.

Then you tuck yourself in, cosy and warm, and drift.

Gently guided, you follow the breath as it arrives cool at the tip of your nose, opens the back of your throat and spreads through your lungs and ribs. Gradually, it feels as though every part of you is breathing, right down to your fingers and toes.

Soft. Fluid. Like a jellyfish floating in warm water.

Somewhere along the way you’ll realise you’re not breathing alone. The same breath connects you to the room around you, to everyone else in the session and to the wider world.

You’ll come back refreshed, settled and quietly glowing, ready for the rest of your evening.

.

Suitable for all levels, including those who are new to Yoga Nidra. You’ll need somewhere comfortable to lie down, with blankets and any other props that help you feel supported.

.

Who It’s For:

  • Anyone who catches themselves holding their breath when life gets busy.
  • Those days when you’re tired but wired, and your mind won’t stop chattering.
  • The end of a full week, when you want proper rest, not just a sit on the sofa scrolling.
  • Anyone curious about their breath who’d rather feel it than work at it.
  • Anyone who likes to be guided, especially if sitting in silent meditation leaves you fidgety.
  • Those who’d love to feel connected and part of something, even while resting at home.
  • Complete beginners and seasoned Nidra lovers alike. No flexibility or yoga experience needed.

.

Benefits:

  • Deep, restorative rest that leaves you refreshed, not groggy.
  • A calmer, quieter mind, as you move out of the busyness of the day.
  • Helps your nervous system shift down a gear, as slow movement, stillness and gentle breath awareness invite your whole system to settle.
  • A more natural, effortless awareness of your breath, with no forcing and no “big deep breaths”.
  • A chance to soften habitual tension through the hips, back, neck and shoulders.
  • Time to stop doing, stop fixing and simply experience being supported.
  • A warm sense of connection, of being part of something bigger than your own busy head.

.

What to Expect:

  • Slow, lazy, delicious movement on the floor, with no right way to do it and nowhere to get to.
  • Gentle movement on all fours, including a soft, easy Down Dog, with alternatives if it’s not your thing.
  • Time to make yourself a cosy nest before drifting into a long, deeply restful Yoga Nidra.
  • A guided journey following your breath, from the cool air arriving at your nose, travelling down within you, until your whole body feels as though it’s breathing.
  • Permission to drift. Move whenever you like, and if you fall asleep, your body probably needed it.
  • A slow, gentle return, ending with your treat, so you come back to the room feeling settled and calm.

.

Recommended Props:

  • Pillows, cushions and blankets for support and to make a cosy nest
  • A bolster  or extra cushions (if you enjoy extra support under your knees)
  • A soft eye covering such as an eye bandage or light cloth
  • A tasty treat to enjoy after Nidra (chocolate is always encouraged!)

.

A beautiful practice for the end of a busy day or week, when you want to stop doing, come back to yourself and simply breathe.
