Your Yoga Workshop Collection 1:

Understand Your Body, Move with Greater Ease – 4 Yoga Workshop Collection

.

Discover why your body moves the way it does, where tension comes from and how small changes can make a surprisingly big difference.

Ever wondered why your shoulders seem permanently attached to your ears? Why your back feels stiff after sitting for too long? Or why stretching a tight area doesn’t always make it feel any better?

Perhaps you’ve noticed that some movements feel effortless while others seem awkward, uncomfortable or surprisingly difficult.

It’s tempting to assume that the answer is simply to stretch more, try harder or strengthen whatever feels weak.

.

But what if the answer begins with understanding how your body actually works?

This collection of four practical yoga workshops invites you to look beyond the usual exercises and discover the fascinating connections between your shoulders, spine, hips, breathing and the way you move.

You’ll explore why tension develops, how different parts of your body influence one another, and why working with your body rather than forcing it can make movement feel easier and more comfortable.

Combining accessible anatomy, Scaravelli-inspired yoga and gentle somatic movement, each workshop offers clear explanations alongside practical explorations you can experience for yourself.

There’s no need to memorise complicated anatomy or achieve a particular shape.

The emphasis is on understanding what you’re feeling, discovering new possibilities and learning how to move with less unnecessary effort.

.

Four Workshops to Help You Understand Your Body Better

  1. Shoulders & Upper Back

Why do your shoulders feel tight, even when you keep stretching them?

Perhaps your neck aches after working at a computer, your shoulders creep upwards when you’re concentrating, or reaching overhead feels uncomfortable.

Your shoulders don’t work in isolation. They depend on the movement of your shoulder blades, ribs, upper spine and the way you breathe.

In this practical workshop, you’ll explore how these areas work together, why tension can build up and how small changes in movement can make a difference.

You’ll learn more about the shoulder joints, rotator cuff, upper back and neck, while exploring gentle ways to reduce unnecessary effort and encourage more comfortable movement.

The aim? To help your shoulders feel less restricted and give you a better understanding of how to look after them.

.

  1. Self-Care & Craniosacral Therapy

What happens when you stop trying to make your body move and start noticing how it wants to move?

We often approach movement as something we need to control, correct or work harder at.

But sometimes the most interesting discoveries happen when we slow down.

Inspired by the gentle principles of craniosacral therapy, this workshop explores subtle movement, breathing and the body’s fluid-filled structures.

You’ll be encouraged to notice small changes in sensation, explore comfortable movement and discover how doing less can sometimes help you become more aware of what’s happening in your body.

There’s no forcing, pushing or trying to achieve a particular result.

Instead, you’ll have time to experiment, become curious and explore movement in a quieter, more thoughtful way.

A lovely opportunity to slow down, develop greater body awareness and enjoy moving without unnecessary effort.

.

  1. The Spinal Engine

Your spine does much more than hold you upright. It’s involved in almost everything you do.

Walking, turning, reaching, bending and balancing all involve a remarkable relationship between your spine, ribs, pelvis and the rest of your body.

Yet we’re often encouraged to think of the back as something that needs to be held straight, kept still or protected from movement.

In this workshop, you’ll explore a different way of understanding your spine.

Discover how movement travels through your body, how the spine and pelvis work together, and why small, natural movements can be just as important as larger ones.

Through clear explanations and practical movement explorations, you’ll develop a better understanding of how your back contributes to everyday activities.

The aim is to help you feel more confident exploring movement, rather than constantly worrying about getting your back into the ‘right’ position.

.

  1. Demystifying the Psoas

Ever feel tight across the front of your hips, particularly after sitting for a long time?

Perhaps you’ve been told your hip flexors are tight, your psoas needs releasing or that stretching is the answer.

But there’s much more to these deep muscles than simply trying to make them longer.

The psoas muscles connect your lower spine to your thighs and play an important part in how you move your legs, organise your balance and coordinate movement through your hips and back.

In this workshop, you’ll explore where these muscles are, what they do and how they work with the rest of your body.

You’ll also look at some common misunderstandings about the psoas, including why a feeling of tightness doesn’t necessarily mean a muscle needs stretching.

With accessible anatomy and gentle movement explorations, you’ll discover more comfortable ways to work with this important area.

A practical, reassuring workshop to help you understand your hips and lower back without getting caught up in complicated explanations or conflicting advice.

.

What Could This Collection Help You With?

  • Understand why you feel stiff or tense – explore how different parts of your body work together and why discomfort isn’t always coming from where you feel it.
  • Move with greater ease – discover ways of reducing unnecessary effort when reaching, bending, turning and moving through everyday life.
  • Feel more confident about your back – learn how your spine contributes to movement rather than thinking of it as something that must always be held still.
  • Make sense of your shoulders and hips – understand how these areas work and why simply stretching them isn’t always the answer.
  • Develop greater awareness of your body – notice the small habits and patterns that influence how you move.
  • Get more from your yoga practice – explore the reasons behind movements, rather than simply following instructions.
  • Support healthy ageing – develop the understanding and confidence to keep moving comfortably and intelligently as you get older.

.

Learn Something Useful About Your Own Body

One of the most valuable things about these workshops is that you won’t simply be listening to explanations about anatomy.

You’ll have the opportunity to explore the ideas through movement and notice what happens in your own body.

You might discover that moving your ribs changes how your shoulders feel, that your back moves more comfortably when you stop trying to hold it rigid, or that a small change in how you move your hips makes an exercise feel quite different.

These discoveries can be surprisingly useful.

And because everyone moves differently, there’s no expectation that your experience should be the same as anyone else’s.

It’s about learning to understand your own body, rather than trying to make it behave like someone else’s.

.

Thoughtful Teaching, Without Complicated Language

Drawing on more than 40 years of yoga practice, Catherine Annis brings together anatomy, Scaravelli-inspired yoga and somatic movement in a way that’s practical, accessible and grounded in experience.

You’ll explore the science behind movement without needing a background in anatomy.

And you’ll be encouraged to question some of the familiar instructions we hear in yoga, particularly when they don’t seem to help.

Rather than being told to stretch further, pull everything in or hold yourself in a particular position, you’ll be invited to investigate what happens when you move differently.

It’s a thoughtful approach that encourages curiosity, confidence and a better understanding of how your body works.

.

Four Workshops to Explore at Your Own Pace

There’s no need to complete all four workshops in a particular order.

Perhaps your shoulders are bothering you, so that’s where you’d like to begin. Or maybe you’ve always been curious about the psoas muscles and want to understand what they actually do.

You can choose the subject that interests you most, pause whenever you need to, repeat an explanation or revisit a movement exploration to see what you notice the second time around.

And because they’re recordings, you can return to them whenever you want to refresh your understanding.

No rushing. No pressure to keep up. Just the freedom to learn, explore and practise in your own home.

.

A Collection Worth Coming Back To

The more you understand how your body works, the easier it can become to recognise familiar movement habits, question unhelpful advice and find ways of moving that suit you.

These four workshops offer something beyond an ordinary yoga class: the opportunity to develop a deeper understanding of your body and use that knowledge in everyday life.

Whether you’re an experienced yoga practitioner, a teacher wanting to explore movement in greater depth, or simply someone who’s curious about why their body feels the way it does, there’s plenty here to discover.

Four workshops. Four fascinating subjects. One opportunity to understand your body better.

Learn something new, explore movement differently and discover how a little more understanding can help you move with greater confidence and ease.
