Friday Night Special: Somatic Yoga + Yoga Nidra

Somatic Yoga followed by Yoga Nidra

Let The Week Melt Away

Imagine reaching Friday evening and knowing that, for the next 75 minutes, there is absolutely nothing you need to achieve.

No rushing. No striving. No need to be productive.

Just time to move gently, breathe, soften and gradually let the demands of the week fall away.

.

This special Friday evening practice combines Somatic Yoga with deeply restful Yoga Nidra, creating a soothing journey from movement into stillness - and from the busyness of everyday life into a quieter, more spacious state.

All from the comfort of your own home.

.

We begin with slow, curious Somatic Yoga, giving you time to move, notice and gradually leave some of the momentum of the week behind. Rather than trying to make yourself relax, we use simple, unhurried movement to help the body settle naturally.

Then, when being still feels like the obvious next step, we lie down.

From there, Catherine will guide you through a long Yoga Nidra - with nothing to achieve, nowhere else to be and no need to concentrate particularly hard.

Why Somatic Yoga before Yoga Nidra?

Going straight from a busy day into stillness can sometimes feel surprisingly difficult.  The body may have stopped, but the mind hasn't necessarily received the message.

That is why this session begins with movement.

Somatic Yoga gives us an opportunity to become interested in what we can actually feel: the contact of the floor beneath us, the movement of the breath, where effort appears and what changes when we stop trying quite so hard.

The movements are gentle, exploratory and accessible. There is no need to stretch further or perform anything perfectly.

Gradually, movement becomes smaller and quieter until eventually there is nothing more you need to do.

And that is where Yoga Nidra begins.

Then Comes The Really Easy Part

You make yourself comfortable, wrap yourself in a blanket and lie down.

Catherine guides you through Yoga Nidra while you simply listen.

Yoga Nidra is sometimes translated as “yogic sleep”, although you don't actually need to fall asleep. The practice explores that fascinating territory between ordinary waking awareness and sleep, when the body can become very quiet while some awareness remains.

You may hear every word. You may drift in and out. You may lose track of the instructions altogether.

There is no correct way to experience it.  For many people, that is part of its appeal: you don't have to be good at relaxing.

The Journey Into Stillness

During this 75-minute online session, we will explore:

.

•  slow, comfortable Somatic Yoga-inspired movement

•  opportunities to notice and release unnecessary muscular effort

•  gentle awareness of breathing and sensation

•  a gradual transition from movement towards stillness

•  a long, guided Yoga Nidra practised lying down

.

The emphasis throughout is on curiosity rather than achievement.

You are welcome whether you have been practising yoga for years or have never tried Somatic Yoga or Yoga Nidra before.

This Evening Might Particularly Appeal To You If…

•  You finish the week tired but still find it difficult to stop.

•  You notice that even when you sit or lie down, some part of you remains busy.

•  You enjoy slower, more exploratory yoga.

•  Or perhaps you simply like the idea of spending a Friday evening moving gently, getting comfortable under a blanket and having absolutely nothing else required of you.

.

Sometimes that is reason enough.

What is Yoga Nidra?

Yoga Nidra, often translated as "yogic sleep," is a deeply restorative guided meditation practised lying down in comfort.

During our session, we'll begin with gentle breathwork and somatic movement to help release tension and settle the nervous system.

You'll then be guided into a state of deep relaxation, where the body can rest completely while the mind remains quietly aware.

Many people find Yoga Nidra profoundly calming.

As the practice unfolds, it can help ease mental chatter, reduce stress and create a sense of spaciousness and inner peace.

Yoga Nidra invites us into the space between waking and sleeping - a naturally restorative state in which the body can rest deeply and the mind can become more receptive, creative and clear.

Whether you're seeking rest, renewal or simply an opportunity to pause and reconnect with yourself, Yoga Nidra offers a powerful and accessible practice for modern life.

You can expect to leave feeling calmer, more grounded and deeply restored - often with the feeling of having had far more rest than the time spent in practice.

In a world that encourages us to keep doing, Yoga Nidra offers a rare opportunity to simply be.
