London Yoga Teacher Training Course

London Yoga Teacher Training Course

Intelligent Yoga Teacher Training (IYTT) is unique amongst teacher training courses.  We offer an incisive, thoughtful and intelligent approach to yoga teacher training, driven by the most current scientific developments in anatomy and movement research.

Delivered by an elite group of senior yoga teachers at the top of their field, IYTT offers a spacious, immersive modular structure which provides time and space for profound learning, integration and growth.  Each of the teaching team draws on decades of practical experience of yoga, including particularly the work of Vanda Scaravelli and somatic, embodied practices.

Described by some as radical and provocative, this approach to practice demands a fundamental shift in our practice and teaching.

"The IYTT programme has radically liberated my movement practice and expanded the way I hold space for others. The programme encourages deep attention to the realities of our bodies - to better support our ability to find freedom and facilitate our students to do the same. The course offers a sophisticated approach to study, rooted in sensorial attunement, philosophical discourse and the most up to date research in anatomy. It is a life changing experience, highly relevant for its insights into Yoga’s past and in its commitment to foster dynamic, curious teachers for the future."

Throughout the course, we’ll investigate how our bodies move, how we respond to stimuli and how we can cultivate an atmosphere of authentic enquiry and exploration.  We’ll support and encourage you to gain a clear understanding of how you personally engage with yourself through movement and how you can use that knowledge to create new, healthier approaches to living and moving, for yourself and your students.

Our London yoga teacher training team has over 200 years of combined yoga practice. With all this knowledge, wisdom and experience, you'll be in safe hands.

Gary Carter – Myofascial Connections

Gary has been teaching and practicing yoga and other movement practices for over 25 years. What he doesn't know about yoga and the body simply isn't worth thinking about. We're delighted to welcome him to share his understanding and expertise about anatomy, particularly in relation to our understanding of the fascia and connective tissues.

Catherine Annis – Course Leader and Core Teacher

Originally a professional dancer, Catherine has been practicing for almost 40 years, and teaching since 2004. She's been teaching yoga teachers since 2011, starting at Triyoga London, and is responsible for creating the iytt. She is your core yoga trainer and mentor.

Neville Cregan – Philosophy

Nev is interested in cultural appropriation and exploring whether modern Western scientific knowledge is changing our approach to yoga. He's a yoga teacher and massage therapist too, and will be helping us delve into the mysteries of yoga philosophy through his down-to-earth and accessible approach.

Jody Barber – Introduction to Anatomy

Jody is a Chartered Physiotherapist of 26 years with a special interest in treating people with a neurological diagnosis.  She'll be introducing us to anatomy basics, so you're sure to understand your asana from your elbow.

Jody Barber

Neurological physiotherapist & yoga teacher

"I deliberated for several years before finding a yoga teacher trainer who I hoped would resonate with my knowledge, skills and background as a neurological Physiotherapist.  Catherine Annis has by far exceeded my expectations - the best training I have done in years!"

Dana Andrew

Yoga teacher

"So thought provoking , challenging, inspirational and progressive. All the trainers have so much experience, knowledge and passion to share.

I can't recommend this training enough. The teachers are extremely generous with their knowledge and very supportive. They really encourage us to celebrate our individuality and creativity as yoga teachers."

Michael Spark

Yoga teacher

"This is such a wonderful life-changing course. Challenging and hard work but incredibly rewarding. Catherine and the other the great tutors have given me so much confidence with their depth of knowledge and experience."

Marta Martinez

Data Scientist & yoga teacher

"This training course has been a truly transformational experience. I chose this course because I wanted to really deepen my practice. I wanted to explore, to learn, to question, to feel, to embody, to listen, to understand and to develop the confidence to "maybe" teach some day. And I can honestly say - it was one of the best decisions I've ever made."

John Stirk

Yoga teacher and osteopath

"I have known Catherine since 2001. During this time she has been my student, yoga colleague and friend. It has been a pleasure to act as her mentor. I have been impressed by her enthusiasm and the intelligent way in which she has immersed herself in all aspects of yoga. She continues to add her own flavour that arises from her dedicated practice. Her teaching reflects her understanding of this broad and valuable subject."

Why is Accreditation Important?

Yoga teaching has evolved, becoming more professional and organised and teachers are now required to hold valid insurance before yoga studios will employ them.

Originally, yoga was passed from teacher to student, on a 1:1 basis.  Students would study for many years with their teacher, only beginning to teach once they had their teacher’s blessing.  The teaching of yoga has changed, and it’s now much less common for people to work privately.  We are more likely to attend class with several other students and the world of teaching online yoga has opened up.

If you really want to follow your dream and begin sharing your love for yoga, it's important to find a course which resonates with you, and which you know will help you develop the skills and experience to be the best teacher you can.

It's also essential to demonstrate to future employers that you have met certain criteria and that you are able to teach safe, intelligent and thoughtful classes.  With IYTT, we believe we have created one of the best, most thoughtful and inspiring yoga teacher training courses and we look forward to practising and exploring yoga together.

Finding a course which is registered with a reputable and established accreditation board is essential.
